My Journey in Card Collecting and Selling: From Hobby to Business
Share
My passion for card collecting began in the 90s, a time when sports and comic cards were booming. Like many collectors of that era, I was drawn to the thrill of finding rare, valuable cards, whether they were from the latest NBA set or comic collections featuring my favorite superheroes. The excitement of tearing open a fresh pack, never knowing what I’d find, was addictive. It was a golden era for collectors, and I was all in—until life took me down a different path, and I took a break from collecting.
**Reigniting the Passion in 2010**
After a decade away, I found myself drawn back to my old collection in 2010. Cards had changed. There were new sets, new technologies like holographic designs, and an entirely new world of anime and gaming cards. Getting back into collecting felt like reconnecting with a long-lost friend. My collection started growing again as I sought out rare cards from series like Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, and anime sets that had gained huge followings.
**Turning a Hobby into a Business in 2020**
Fast forward to 2020—when the world was hit by the pandemic. During lockdowns, many people turned to hobbies and collectibles for comfort, and the card-collecting market surged. It was then that I realized my collection was more than a personal treasure—it was an opportunity. With extra time on my hands, I decided to test the waters by selling a few cards online. To my surprise, they sold quickly, sparking an idea: why not turn this hobby into a side business?
As the demand for cards skyrocketed, I began selling on platforms like eBay, interacting with other collectors, and learning the ropes of online sales. It wasn’t just about making money—it was about being part of a growing community of collectors who shared the same passion I had for years.
**Recognition in 2021: A Turning Point**
2021 was a breakthrough year. Not only was I featured by eBay for my collection and success as a seller, but I also received recognition from several news outlets that spotlighted how collectibles had become a booming market. These features brought more visibility to my listings, and my customer base grew significantly. Suddenly, I wasn’t just a hobbyist—I was running a small but thriving business, catering to fellow card enthusiasts all over the world.
**Launching Heenja’s Cards: September 2024**
After years of selling on marketplaces and refining my approach, I decided it was time to create my own space. In September 2024, **Heenja’s Cards** was born—a dedicated online store for collectors. Here, I curate collections of rare and highly sought-after anime, sports, and gaming cards, ensuring each listing is detailed and transparent for collectors like me.
Starting my own e-commerce store has been an incredible milestone in this journey. It allows me to engage with customers more directly, create a tailored experience, and continue sharing my love for cards. What began as a childhood hobby has evolved into a full-fledged business, and the journey has only just begun.
I’m excited to see where this path leads next, and I hope to continue sharing rare treasures with collectors worldwide!
